Costing the Invisible

I was commissioned to design this report which was conducted by the Centre for Appearance Research and funded by the Government Equalities Office.

Body image is an important issue for me, as it is for most women, but the campaigning work I did with AnyBody UK threw it into sharper focus. The report puts forward the economic case for positive body image, since the diet and beauty industries promote body anxiety to get repeat custom.

The epidemic of body distress that this causes in many women and girls, and increasingly men and boys, results in stress, anxiety and disastrously disordered eating. In turn, this causes other health issues which put strain on the individual, the workforce, the NHS and the economy as a whole.
